What is it about certain foods that children love so much? Is it the size, shape, or perhaps the familiarity? Unfortunately, kid food tends to be rather unhealthy. It’s often highly processed and loaded with unhealthy ingredients. While some kids may love celery sticks and hummus, most prefer to stick to recognizable fare. If we want to meet them on their level we may have to change our game plan.
To this end, we’ve come up with a list of 8 healthy recipes that are especially kid friendly. (And there’s an added bonus if you involve your kids in the cooking process.) Bon Appetite!
French Toast. This great tasting recipe makes a great weekend breakfast that kids will love. Top it with syrup, fruit, nuts, and even some vegan whip cream. Kids will also enjoy helping you batter the bread before you fry it.
Pancake Puffs. Something about finger food appeals to kids. Maybe it’s the bite-sized servings or maybe they are just more fun. In any case, your kids will have a blast with our pancake puffs.
Grilled Cheese Sandwich. This is a more interesting and nutritious take on a classic sandwich. We recommend serving it with our cream of tomato soup for dipping.
Southwest Black Bean Burger. Find me a kid who doesn’t like burgers. Top them with all sorts of fresh veggies from avocados to sprouts. Kids can also help shape the ‘meat’ into patties.
Quick Personal Pizza. These make a great snack or quick meal. Best of all, depending on your base, sauce, and toppings, the possibilities are endless.
Mac & Cheeze. A healthier twist on another kid favorite. Serve it alongside some steamed broccoli or peas. If you’re feeling generous you could even toss in some chopped up vegedogs.
Frozen Banana Pops. Bananas have an intrinsic sweetness, creaminess, and binding quality that make them a perfect medium for a healthy desert. Kids will also get a kick out of making them and choosing what they want to coat their bananas with.
Monkey Shake. This shake makes a great treat on a summer day. Best of all, it’s good for you! Ingredients include, soy milk, raw almonds, dates, peanut butter, bananas, and cocoa powder. Enjoy
