What Does Happiness Have Do To With Your Health?

At some point in our lives, we’ve leafed through at least one or two books about positive thinking. We’re well aware of the idea that our mindset can be the key to success for any challenge, but what about our health? Can our mindset also affect our physical health?

A study on the relationship between positivity and health

A 2012 study indicated that having a positive mindset is related to a reduction in mortality and risk of coronary heart disease (CHD), as well as other age-related diseases. This specific study examined the association between a person’s enjoyment of life and their survival.

The study found a connection between biological responses and positive well-being. In particular, it revealed a reduction in cortisol, the body’s main stress hormone, as well as improved cardiovascular and inflammatory responses to stress when the person had a positive attitude. The key seems to be in improving a person’s enjoyment of life. Amazing, isn’t it, that a simple change in attitude can lead to a balance between mind-body health?

In addition, the study found that those who have a higher enjoyment of life tend to have a higher level of health awareness. This shows us that, if we are privileged enough to be informed about lifestyle health, we really need to share what we know with others. Think about it – simply by sharing what we know, we can help change people’s lives to be happier and healthier.
